Celebrating Rosh Hashanah: A Message from SAJA Management

Dear SAJA Community,

As the sun sets and the delightful scent of apples and honey fills the air, we come together once more to commemorate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. This special occasion not only signifies the start of a new year, but also serves as a time for reflection, renewal, and the pleasing embrace of loved ones and the community.

The Sub-Saharan African Jewish Alliance (SAJA) considers this moment to be of great significance as we come together to celebrate with our members throughout the region. Our diverse community spanning from West to Southern Africa, including Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, is united in embracing the opportunities and blessings that the upcoming year holds.

Rosh Hashanah, also referred to as the “Head of the Year,” is a significant occasion that encourages self-reflection and the establishment of goals for the future. This is a moment for us to reflect on the journey we have taken as a community and to envision the path that lies ahead. In our region, which is characterized by its diversity and multicultural nature, we draw inspiration from the dynamic array of traditions and cultures that form our SAJA family.

We would like to extend our heartfelt greetings and warm wishes to our SAJA partners around the world, including those in the United States and Israel. We greatly appreciate your support and collaboration, as they have played a crucial role in our efforts to enhance the bonds within the Sub-Saharan African Jewish community and foster cultural understanding and unity.

As we dip the apple in honey and exchange wishes for a sweet year ahead, let us also pledge to collaborate in order to achieve our common objectives of fostering community development, preserving our culture, and promoting mutual respect. May the upcoming year bring abundant blessings, peace, and prosperity to all of our valued members and partners.

Shanah Tovah Umetukah! (A Good and Sweet Year!)

With warm regards,

Avraham Ben Avraham
On behalf of SAJA Management
